Job Description

The Perseus Group, a division of Constellation Software (TSX:CSU), is seeking an Indirect Tax Manager (Sales Tax) to lead the global sales tax department for the Perseus Group in the Markham, Ontario or Hunt Valley, Maryland office (remote candidates will also be considered). Reports to: Sr. Finance Manager / Director

What you’ll be doing:

  • Responsible to manage the global sales tax department and ensure compliance to the US sales and use tax regulations, Canadian GST/HST (Canada) and VAT (European), GST (Australian) rules and oversee international indirect tax compliance.

  • Perform Sales Tax Nexus study, product taxability and lead implementation of changes required to indirect tax compliance processes as a result of changes to indirect tax legislation.

  • Review existing sales tax returns filings and compliance process, tax rate updates, reconciliations, data analysis. Manage data requests from internal departments.

  • Advise sales tax compliance for US entities for use tax on purchase and manage input tax credit to comply with GST/HST and VAT regulations.

  • Participate in new business acquisition and perform exposure and compliance study during due diligence for potential new acquisitions prospects. Additionally, integrate and set-up new acquisitions in MS Dynamics Great Plains and devise its filing process with the existing Sales Tax framework.

  • Hands-on experience with ERP systems especially MS Dynamics GP and sales tax software tools such as DynamicZip, AvaTax, Vertex, will be an added advantage.

  • Liaison with and act as sales tax advisor to billings teams and ensure billing systems are configured to charge correct sales tax.

  • Respond and manage state and federal sales tax audits and respond to sales tax notices. Experience with filing sales tax appeals will be an added advantage.

  • Perform sales tax research using TTR and other tax tools to keep entities up to date with recent changes.

  • Working with the internal legal team to manage state-level entity registrations and working with 3rd party representatives (CT Corp).

  • Lead and manage a team of 6 offshore resources located in Karachi, Pakistan.

What we’re looking for:

  • Minimum 5 years of progressive sales tax experience

  • Experience managing an international sales tax compliance function.

  • Experience and working knowledge of international and US sales taxes.

  • Experience within mergers and acquisitions industry an asset.

  • Good working knowledge of ERP systems, including MS Dynamics, Great Plains

  • Previous experience with implementation of tax tools such as Avalara or DynamicZip will be preferred.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, good interpersonal skills, and the ability to read and interpret legislation.

  • Ability to handle multiple assignments, work effectively under pressure and work well in a team environment.

  • Strong attention to detail, ability to think creatively, and solve complex problems with innovative solutions.

  • Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office suite including advanced used of Excel workbooks and PowerPoint.

  • University Degree in Business / Accounting, CPA (or equivalent) or any tax certification preferred.

Salary Range (US Only):

The estimated base salary range for this role in the United States is $88,000.00 - $132,000.00 per year. For compliance with local legislation, and to provide greater transparency to applicants, we share salary ranges on all job postings regardless of the desired hiring location or whether the position is remote. The posted range is an estimate and reflects many factors which are subject to change. Final offer amounts may vary from the amounts listed above, based upon geographic location, candidate experience and expertise, and other relevant factors.

Other Compensation (US Only):

This role will also be eligible for participation in a Company profit sharing bonus plan. Plan details will be provided to you upon hire.

Time off (US Only):
