About the Role:

 

The Category Manager at Hearth Brands leads customer experience through the right product assortment, best in class content across channels, inventory alignment and expert product knowledge for owned brand as well as 3rd party products.  Hearth Brands consists of (1) Electric Fireplaces Direct and (2) Mantels Direct.

 

The Category Manger is responsible for developing business strategies and seasonal assortment plans to maximize the Company’s retail brand, sales and profits for an assigned area or department. This position identifies opportunities and recommends new products for the assigned category of business. This position also manages information across multiple cross-functional teams working closely with ecommerce, product development, inventory, marketing, site development and planning.

 

  • Location:  100% Remote.  (Required to work from any location within the USA.)
  • Reports To:  Director, Merchandising @ Hearth Brands
  • Direct Reports:  N/A
  • Schedule:  Full Time, Monday – Friday, 1st shift, flexible on time zone
  • Total Monetary Compensation:  
    1. Base Salary of $70,000 - $90,000 annually.
    2. Bonus potential of up to 18% of base salary.

Hearth Brands, a part of Renovation Brands, is a leading, fast-growing omni-channel provider in the hearth and patio products space. They specialize in electric fireplaces, mantel shelves and surrounds, fireplace accessories and more. Products are sold on their ecommerce properties (electricfireplacesdirect.com and mantelsdirect.com) and third party wholesale and marketplace sites including Amazon, Wayfair, Lowe’s, Walmart & Target.

 

Responsibilities: 

 

  • Develop owned brand product strategy that drives profitable growth by understanding the competitive landscape and gaps in the marketplace.
  • Partner with key 3rd party vendors to strengthen relationships, understand product roadmap & brand differentiation, drive Hearth Brands as a preferred online retailer.
  • Adjust site merchandising, pricing, promotional, and markdown strategy based on customer feedback, competitor actions, in-stock shifts/product availability and other dynamic considerations.
  • Work side-by-side with partners in Planning, Sourcing, and Supply Chain to manage pricing, inventory additions and sell-through.
  • Partner with internal marketing and eCommerce partners to lead growth and innovation with marketplace and wholesale partners, with online advertising platforms, and on our ecommerce websites. 
  • Utilize reporting tools to analyze effectiveness of merchandising activities, with a focus on delivering key KPIs.
  • Ensure product data is accurate across all channels.
  • Understand the professional customer/specifier and develop strategies to gain market share with pros.
  • Collaborate with the various teams to align merchandising efforts with promotional campaigns and product launches.
  • Analyze web analytics and sales data to make data-driven decisions, conduct A/B testing, and optimize site content for improved conversion rates.
  • Develop and implement effective site merchandising strategies for enhanced product visibility and increased online sales.
  • Drive category sales and profitability through the development and execution of promotional plans across multiple channels.
  • Perform market analysis and competitive shop; analyze sales trends to keep abreast of current trends. Obtain feedback from stores to improve product and add to collections.

 

 

Qualifications & Skills:

 

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education, experience, and training.
  • 5+ years of relevant experience in product-related roles.
  • Experience building brands and developing branded products.
  • Understanding of eCommerce best practices required, direct experience in eCommerce merchandising preferred.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret web analytics and make informed merchandising decisions.
  • Proficiency in Excel as well as Keynote or PowerPoint.
  • Strong retail math and knowledge of retail reporting. Ability to present key insights with relevant and actionable product strategies.
  • A results-driven background in merchandising and marketing consumer products.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to facilitate meetings and presentations with a high degree of integrity.
  • Clear understanding of the home renovation customer, particularly the hearth and patio consumer and specifier.
  • Ability to turn data into actionable consumer insights.
  • Self-driven and curious – continually looking for opportunities to improve.
